Oakland police prepare for BART shooting verdict

Cops will work 12-hour shifts until further notice

OAKLAND, Calif. — Oakland Police officers are now working 12-hour shifts until further notice. Future vacations are on indefinite hold.

"Operation Verdict" - a regional police response operation - is in full swing as the Oakland Police Department prepares for the aftermath of the Johannes Mehserle trial.

While the streets remain peaceful, police are training for the possibility it could get violent.
