Tenn. suspect evades police, may be headed towards Ky.
NASHVILLE, Tenn.- A suspect who fled a Nashville hospital led police around the Nashville area Wednesday night, and authorities believe he now may be headed toward Kentucky.
Thirty-six-year-old Gary Johnson was in police custody at Metro General Hospital being treated for a Taser shock given by police Tuesday night when he was arrested on kidnapping charges.
Police spokesman Don Aaron says Johnson attacked the deputy guarding his room Wednesday afternoon, wrestled her to the floor and took her pistol. The deputy was treated for minor injuries.
Police say Johnson commandeered several vehicles as he meandered around Nashville and was last suspected of carjacking the driver of a red Ford Mustang north of Nashville. He's believed to be driving north on Interstate 65 toward Kentucky.
