Ex-felon charged with shooting, wounding Calif. motorcycle officer

OAKLAND, Calif. — A San Lorenzo man was charged Thursday with attempted murder and being an ex-felon with a gun for allegedly shooting and wounding an Oakland police motorcycle officer.

Jesse William Mendez, 26, could face life in prison with the possibility of parole for firing four shots at Officer Kevin McDonald on May 19 after being pulled over for running a stop sign on MacArthur Boulevard in East Oakland, authorities said.
