BROOMFIELD, Colo. — A Broomfield motorcycle officer investigating a road-rage incident was injured Thursday night when a tractor-trailer veered into his lane and forced him into a concrete median.
The officer, who was not identified, was taken to a local hospital. His condition was not known, but his injuries were described as "minor" by Sgt. Colleen O'Connell, spokeswoman with Broomfield police.
Shortly before 8:36 p.m., the officer was checking on an alleged road-rage incident involving a semitruck and a red minivan on northbound Sheridan Boulevard, near East 9th Avenue and East Midway Boulevard.
"The semi was honking his horn," said O'Connell.
"He (the officer) was trying to catch up to see what the problem was."
The officer was traveling in the left lane, going northbound on Sheridan Boulevard. As he neared the semitrailer, the tractor-trailer pulled into the officer's lane, forcing him into the median.
"The motorcycle winds up on the southbound lane, on its side and the officer is off the bike," said O'Connell.
The tractor-trailer was later stopped about a mile north of the incident.
The driver was being questioned Thursday night, while southbound Sheridan Boulevard was closed for several hours.
Broomfield police are seeking witnesses who may have seen the altercation. If anyone has information, call 303-438-6400.
