MEMPHIS — An officer was in a critical condition Thursday after another cop shot him accidentally when aiming for an approaching pit bull.

Nine-year veteran Willie Bryant was transported to Regional Medical Center to undergo surgery after the incident, according to Commercial Appeal.

Bryant, a member of MPD’s Organized Crime Unit, was wearing a protective vest at the time.

Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong told local media that officers were executing a search warrant when they were confronted by the pit bull at a home in north Memphis.
