Ga. cop shot during disturbance call

The officer was shot in a struggle with a suspect for the cop's gun

ATHENS, Ga. — An officer responding to a domestic disturbance call was shot as the suspect involved was trying to grab the officer’s gun Sunday morning.

According to an Athens Police press release, 28-year -old James M. Marcantonio was banging on the door of an apartment and attempting to gain entrance, prompting the resident to call police.

As an officer arrived and confronted the suspect, Marcantonio became combative and struggled with the officer.

Witnesses told police Marcantonio attempted to take the officer's weapon, and the officer was shot once.

Marcantonio was arrested as other officers got to the scene.

The officer, who has not been named, was taken to the hospital for treatment.
