Video: Cops stand behind arrest of 77-year-old woman

Officer asks to see a driver's license and insurance, but motorist refuses multiple times to produce the documentation

KEENE, Texas — Police are standing behind an officer whose arrest of a 77-year-old woman caught on video has her considering a lawsuit against the department.

Lynn Bedford has hired an attorney following a traffic stop in which she repeatedly refused to show ID, NBC Chicago reported

When Keene Police Sgt. Gene Geheb initially stopped Bedford for driving 16 mph over the posted limit of 50 mph Aug. 19, Bedford told him to "hurry up" because she had to go to the bathroom.

In the video, Geheb asks to see her driver's license and insurance, but she refuses multiple times to produce the documentation, claiming she had a bladder infection.

"Give it to me now, or I'm going to take you to jail," Geheb said.

"Well, go ahead," Bedford replied.

Geheb pulls her from the vehicle and handcuffs her, which Attorney Clay Graham said resulted in injury. He and Bedford have not pursued legal action, but said they may in the future.

Police have reviewed the incident and agree that policy was followed during the stop.

"All parties have concluded that Sgt. Geheb did not violate any state laws or department policies, and in fact was following department policy in regards to violators not providing identification," Keene Police Chief Rocky Alberti said in a statement.
