New Orleans police SWAT officers surrounded a house in Treme for more than three hours Tuesday evening, in an effort to arrest a man believed to be hiding there after threatening two other men with a gun.

Police responded to a report that two men used a gun and knife to threaten the two other men about 6 p.m. in the 1900 block of St. Philip Street.

The two victims notified police, who chased and arrested one of the suspects, said Garry Flot, a police public information officer.

Flot said the other man, believed to be carrying an assault rifle, ran into a house in the same block, Flot said.

First District police called for him to surrender, and then summoned the SWAT team. SWAT team members surrounded the house, and were still trying to communicate with the man with a bullhorn shortly after 9 p.m., when they secured a Criminal District Court warrant to search the house.

The man had not responded to police.
