Texas Gunman Ends Standoff After Shooting at Officers, Residents

Police Evacuate Homes After Shots Fired

LEWISVILLE, Texas -- Police evacuated homes in Lewisville Wednesday night after authorities said a gunman holed up in his house fired shots in the neighborhood and then at officers.

Police said the man, barricaided in his house on Applegate Drive, confronted the first officers on the scene and fired shots at officers after police asked him if there was a problem. Police reportedly did not shoot back.

Police evacuated the neighboring homes and a SWAT team set up a command post on the block while other officers tried to establish negotiations with the suspect.

The incident ended peacefully before 10 p.m. Police said the man walked to his back yard, sat in a lawn chair and told the officers, "Boy, it is cold out here."
