Training Tip: Drawing Weapon on Your Back
(Secure - Login Required)

As a military veteran and current police officer, I would like to point out a basic technique that, too many, is not so basic; Drawing your weapon while laying on your back.

I know we are all taught to "GET UP" and should practice getting up while keeping our gun out of reach from the perp, but I was taught in Ranger school that you may have to fight or utilize weapons from any position.

This includes while on your back. Try it once at home with a cleared gun and you may be surprised at how akward it is. I also suggest weak arm practices ie; brushing your teeth, shaving, and weak-arm weapons reload. These practices will improve your "other-hand" coordination.
