FRANKLIN, Ohio — Dash cam footage has been released of a pair of Good Samaritans aiding an officer involved in a brutal scuffle with a suspect.
WSOC reports Officer Christopher Keene approached 41-year-old Charles Cole as police were searching the area for a suspect in the burglary of a nearby residence.
When Officer Keene attempted to talk to Cole, he ran. Keene was punched twice by the suspect as he engaged in a foot pursuit, starting the fight captured on the cruiser’s camera.
33-year-old Benjamin Lawson and 19-year-old Levi Miniard stepped in to aid the officer as they witnessed the struggle.
"It feels good but I just feel like it's not even that he was an officer, it's just if you see anyone in the streets getting hurt you should try to help and not just stand there and record stuff on your phone," Miniard said.
Officer Keene suffered a laceration on the side of his head, a black eye and a strained neck. He was treated and later released.
Cole has been charged with burglary, assault on a police officer and obstructing official business, according to the report.
