A 33-year-old man got to ride in a police car twice Thursday morning -- once when he allegedly stole a police cruiser and again when he was captured and taken to police headquarters.
Police officers were trying to break up a crowd in a parking lot at 30th Street and Ames Avenue about 1:30 a.m. when the man drove off in the cruiser, said Sgt. Teresa Negron, a police spokeswoman.
The police helicopter located the cruiser a short time later, and the man was captured and booked on suspicion of theft by unlawful taking.
The cruiser was not damaged, Negron said.
