DURHAM, N.C. — A police officer was hospitalized after trying to stop a rolling police car Thursday.

Officer J. Fair had stopped to tag an abandoned vehicle on the 100 block of Young Street about 2:20 p.m. when the police car started rolling backward, police said. The vehicle was not in park.

Fair, who joined the department in 1995, sustained knee and foot injuries and was taken to Durham Regional Hospital. The police vehicle was not damaged.
