N.H. officer struck by lightning

HAMPTON, N.H.—Normally, police officers who pull people over are concerned about being struck by other cars, but in Hampton, New Hampshire, an officer had a larger problem. He was leveled by a bolt of lightning.

Officer Alexander Reno was about to write a ticket early Wednesday for a driver who had stopped in the middle of a bridge on Route 1-A when he saw a flash and went down. He said he thought his Taser had gone off and zapped him.

Police say the driver had stopped to take pictures of the vivid lightning around 12:30 a.m.

Lt. Dan Gidley says Reno's partner ran to his aid, thinking at first that Reno had been shot.

Reno was checked out at the hospital and finished his shift. The driver didn't get a ticket.
