BRANDON, Miss. — A convenience store robbery was thwarted when the mother of the suspect stepped in, police said.
Surveillance video recorded Tuesday shows Roy Mitchell, 22, pull out a gun and demand money from a store clerk after trying to buy a bag of chips at the register.
Then his mother told him to leave and asked the clerk not to call police, stating that the firearm was fake, according to WAPI.
The pair then drove to a nearby town, where they were stopped by an officer. Mitchell was arrested and charged with attempted armed robbery.
"If the clerk had a gun it could have been real messy," Assistant Police Chief Chris Butts said.
