|
The City of Corvallis provides computer-aided dispatch services for law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services agencies in Benton County in a state-of-the-art communications center. Dispatch personnel are responsible for receiving emergency calls, identifying the needs of callers, prioritizing calls, determining jurisdiction, and dispatching appropriate units and equipment. Dispatchers instruct callers in the use of life-saving techniques when necessary. Duties also include computer terminal operation, alarm monitoring, and other related work as required. Work includes rotating shifts, nights and/or weekends. “The City of Corvallis is Committed to Excellence in Customer Service Through its Employees.”

Incumbent must possess excellent mental reflexes and be able to think quickly and independently in emergency situations that require multiple decisions. Must possess a high level of interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with emotionally stressed and otherwise challenging callers to discern their situations and to prioritize decisions to ensure appropriate agency response. Must communicate while remaining calm, resolving situations, prioritizing, and making decisions in multiple, highly stressful, and potentially deteriorating situations. Must be flexible and adaptable with the ability to multi-task, and to function as a member of a close working team.

Job Requirements |
||
|
Must pass a medical examination that includes hearing tests as established by DPSST, a psychological examination, and a background investigation including Oregon State Police Bureau of Identification fingerprint clearance. Within the probationary period, must maintain all required state certificates and licenses as follows; certification as DPSST Basic Telecommunicator and Emergency Medical Dispatch; CPR and First Aid certification; Law Enforcement Data System certification. Ability to learn the geographic area, community and agency resources, standard operating procedures, and mutual aid agreements within the probationary period. Ability to remain stationary for extended periods of time (sitting/standing etc.) and be sufficiently mobile within the 911 Center to perform the essential job functions. Ability to keyboard by touch and learn computer systems necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
