Rep: People believe Chicago cops "involved in murders"

Rep. Monique Davis says she is just repeating what she has been told when she says the community blames the police for some murders

By Charles Thomas
ABC 7

CHICAGO — State Representative Monique Davis (D-Chicago) talked to a radio station in Detroit about the perceptions that she says some people in her district have about the murders of black youth in Chicago.

"Some people in my community believe the police may be involved in some of these murders," said Rep. Davis.

Davis says the incident is proof that the public image of Chicago police is still not recovered from high-profile brutality cases, and that she should not be condemned for saying what people think.

"I think it's absurd, I think it's inflammatory. I think it's also insulting," said Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy. McCarthy dismissed the Davis observations and said they were not worth repeating or more discussion.
