Local cop news with Capt. Mike Williams: 01.10.06 report
Looking for great media training for law enforcement?
The IACP Public Information Officer Section offers some of the best and most affordable anywhere at its annual mid-year conference.
This year's session is in Arlington Virginia, April 19-21, 2006. Whether your job is on the front line or in the corner office, you no doubt realize that we live in an age of instant communication. The media can dramatically impact both public perception of your agency and operational reality, both negatively and positively. We certainly don't want to see live shots of our SWAT ops, but we do want and need the media's help broadcasting Amber Alerts and other time-critical information.
You don't want just anybody on your tactical entry team; likewise you don't want just anybody standing before the cameras representing your agency to the media. Neither job is as easy as it looks and it is training that makes the difference.
The conference is at the Ronald Reagan National Airport Radisson in Arlington. www.radisson.com/arlingtonva The agenda includes a visit to and a presentation about the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington DC. www.nleomf.org Honor our fallen brothers and sisters, and learn how to make the most of May's National Police Week at your agency. Presentations and special events are also planned at the Pentagon and Washington Navy Yard; you'll see demonstrations of new technology that can help you inform your community quickly and efficiently, and you'll hear workshops and case studies from some of the top PIOs in the country. You'll definitely go home with information you can use.
Sign up before February 1st and save $25 off the $250 registration.
