Mike Williams' 05.09.06 local cop news

Oklahoma: An off-duty University of Oklahoma police officer shot and injured a man police say sped and left the scene of an accident today.

Michigan: Doctors are helping back up members of the Wayne County Sheriff's Special Response Team in potentially dangerous situations that involve barricaded gunmen, hostages and bomb scares.

Wisconsin: The state Attorney General's office will be asked to mediate a dispute between a northern Wisconsin weekly newspaper and the Minocqua Town Board over an open record request concerning use of a Taser by a police officer on a man last December.

Florida: Are Orlando PD officers too quick to Tase? From 2003 to 2005, Orlando cops Tased 1,243 people, often in violent situations. But a review finds they also used stun guns after minor traffic stops and on angry drunks downtown.

Georgia: A city court judge has been arrested by SWAT officers in an undercover sting involving alleged misconduct with teenage girls.

California: County police have reported three officer-involved shootings so far this year compared to five in the last three years, which has raised the debate on whether police should use Taser stun guns. (That until someone dies after being Tased then the same people will call for the removal of all Tasers and replacing them with large marshmallows).

Canada: A city police officer has filed a $900,000 lawsuit against the force claiming he was bullied and harassed while a member of its tactical unit. Adam Morrison also alleges in the suit, filed two weeks ago, that tactical team leaders drank excessive amounts of alcohol before conducting firearms training.

North Carolina: Rocky Mount police officer remembers life changing in 2 seconds.

Atlanta: Atlanta police officer suspended, 2 women arrested in road rage case.
