Dr. McCoy has been in private Practice as a Clinical Counselor for 10 years. Her undergraduate degree is from the University of South Carolina, her Masters Degree is from The Citadel, and her doctorate in Counseling Psychology is from the University of Sarasota. She is a Diplomate with the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress; she is a Certified Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist; a National Certified Therapist; Nova-trained Community Crisis Responder and Law Enforcement Consultant, and a Licensed Professional Counselor (North and South Carolina). Welcome, I'll be your backup for stress related issues: trauma, relationships, conflict resolution, rational thinking and neural-chemical issues (i.e., depression, anxiety).

I have also worked with officers to help them meet their goals (behavior change). For example, if you would like to stop smoking, eat more healthful meals, lose weight, get in shape for running after the bad guys ... I'm your back-up for helping you with these behavior changes. I would also like to help you do your job by including columns on recognizing and approaching the mentally ill.

Since the de-institutionalization (removing the mentally ill from hospitals) these individuals have been sent back out into their communities. Many ill individuals are on the streets trying to cope with their illness.
