Officers featured in PoliceOne Exclusive named SWAT Officers of the Yearby Scott Buhrmaster, PoliceOne Contributor PoliceOne extends enthusiastic congratulations to Lt. Dan Marcou and Officer Robert Michalski of the LaCrosse, Wi., Police Dpt., who have been named SWAT Officers of the Year by the Wisconsin Association of SWAT Personnel (ASP-W). ASP-W is the largest such organization in the Midwest (and the first ever formed in the nation) comprised of more than 1,000 members from four states. The two were honored for their heroic actions during a bloody active shooter incident at a hotel in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. PoliceOne Senior Contributor Chuck Remsberg recently shared the gripping inside details of that incident in the exclusive P-1 report, Behind the Scenes At Wisconsin's Bloody Motel Shooting Rampage (Secure - LEO Login Required) "Both of these officers performed outstandingly in completely different roles," said Milwaukee PD Lt. William G. Skurzewski, a member of ASP-W's Board of Directors and the Chairman of the awards committee. "And yet, both officers performed exactly as expected, exactly as they have trained and in the highest tradition and standards expected of an officer assigned to a Special Weapons and Tactics Team. "Lieutenant Daniel Marcou and Officer Robert Michalski are true heroes and I am confident that their actions on the morning of November 5, 2004 saved lives," Skurzewski continued while presenting the awards. "Their actions have brought honor to themselves, their departments and their SWAT teams, and the profession of law enforcement." "I know that so often what we do goes unnoticed," Lt. Marcou told PoliceOne. "Thanks to PoliceOne, Charles Remsberg and the Association of SWAT Personnel, I will retire in a year realizing that I ran to the wire. Thank you all." On behalf of the entire PoliceOne staff, congratulations to Lt. Marcou and Officer Michalski! Job well done! |
