While the skillful use of giving commands to subjects can achieve a desired effect, at times that tactic falls short — at times that tactic actually telegraphs your intention to take a subject into custody. PoliceOne Columnist Gary Klugiewicz explains that by using a quieter approach — and using questions rather than commands — you can often make your intentions unknown until it’s too late (for the suspect!) and your arrest has already been effected.
