Calif. Police Raise Funds To Help Murder Suspect's Ailing Wife

FoxReno News (Nevada)

RICHMOND, Calif. -- Richmond Police say that a Richmond man who allegedly stabbed his 18-month-old son to death Monday may have acted violently because of the extreme stress he had been feeling as the result of his wife's terminal illness and his recent job loss.

Charles Thomas McEntire's wife, Edrina Gibson, suffers from Lymphoma and doctors said she has only a few months to live.

She has not been receiving chemotherapy because McEntire is retired and no longer has health insurance.

McEntire allegedly stabbed the couple's adopted son, Charles McEntire III, with a kitchen knife Monday and then called 911.

McEntire was taken into custody and is being held on $1 million bail at the Contra Costa County Detention Facility in Martinez.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on a murder charge on Dec. 8.

Gibson's son, Jamil Posey, is helping care for his mother but he is in the U.S Marine Corps and is supposed to go to Iraq.

He's been given 30 days to report to duty.

The Richmond Police Department have opened a beneficial account to help Gibson pay for her medical bills.

The first two contributions were made from the Richmond Police Officers Association and the Richmond branch of the Latino Peace Officers Association, Gagan said.

The Police Department is urging members of the public to donate as well.

The account is under the name Sgt. Mitch Peixoto, The McEntire Memorial Fund at the Washington Mutual Bank at 12121 San Pablo Ave., Richmond, CA, 94805, account No. 1001934719.
