Crime ring of transvestites victimized nursing homes

Member Submission

NEW ORLEANS, La.-- A crime ring led by a woman and that included several men dressing as women is believed to have preyed on nursing homes across the southeast, netting potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars from victims, according to St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Jack Strain.

Detectives recently arrested a man identified as Markiniou Hartfield, who they believe is a transvestite involved in the ring. The alleged leader Aisha Hoard of New Orleans remains at large along with several other suspects.

Strain said that among the nursing homes that were victimized was the Christwood retirement community near Madisonville. He said the suspects’ appearances aided their cause.
