Tex. inmate injured in prison escape attempt

GALVESTON, Tex. — A prisoner serving a life sentence for aggravated assault was injured Sunday evening after falling from a fence during an attempted escape, a Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman said.

David Davis, 54, was nearing the razor wire atop the recreation yard fence of the Stringfellow Unit at Rosharon around 7:30 p.m. when a guard fired a round., TDCJ spokesman Jason Clark said. After the shot, Davis fell from the fence.

The inmate was transported to a Galveston Hospital via LifeFlight helicopter with non-life-threatening injuries, .

Davis was serving a life sentence for a 1992 aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Houston.
