Ky. police find arson to blame for courthouse blaze

By The Associated Press

BARDWELL, Ky. — A fire that nearly destroyed a western Kentucky courthouse was an arson, the second time this county's courthouse was set ablaze on purpose.

The fire at the Carlisle County Courthouse started early Dec. 26. The building was almost destroyed, with only the outer brick walls still standing.

The courthouse was built in the early 1980s after an arsonist burned down the previous one, officials said.

Kentucky State Police and the Kentucky Association of Counties are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

The one-story courthouse housed about two dozen employees, officials said. They are being moved to temporary offices.
