Pa. police find $27,000 of heroin in car

The Morning Call

Two Scranton residents were arrested after police found more than $27,000 worth of heroin in a car stopped Sunday for driving erratically on Interstate 80, state police at Swiftwater said.

Mark A. Sleboda and Brenda Marie Kakareka, both 27, were westbound in Pocono Township at 9:20 p.m. when police saw their car driving off the shoulder and nearly crashing several times, police said.

Inside the car, police said, were 1,097 packets of heroin weighing more than 13 ounces and worth about $27,500.

They were each arrested on drug possession charges and sent to Monroe County Prison under $100,000 bail by District Judge Richard Claypool, police said.

Police said they later discovered Kakareka was wanted by Scranton police on other drug charges and a detainer was lodged against her for that outstanding charge.
