Handcuffed police informant jumps from Washington bridge
The Associated Press
WENATCHEE, Wash. — A woman working as a police informant during an attempted drug bust jumped from a bridge into the Wenatchee River while six officers were nearby, and hasn't been seen since.
Sandra I. Duffy, 43, jumped about 20 feet to the water, which is about 48 degrees. She was handcuffed, with a coat draped over her hands to hide the restraints.
Duffy may have drowned Tuesday night or made it to shore at the Sleepy Hollow Bridge near Wenatchee, Chelan County sheriff's Lt. Jerry Moore told the Wenatchee World.
She had been arrested earlier Tuesday on probation violation warrants and drug charges, including possessing methamphetamine.
Moore said Duffy had worked with the Columbia River Drug Task Force before. To get on the good side of police, she agreed to buy cocaine from a seller who wanted to meet on the bridge.
Duffy had been waiting on the bridge for the informant. Three uniformed officers and three undercover officers were nearby when she jumped.
