Man slices N.C. officer with box cutter

The News & Observer

RALEIGH, N.C. A man is in custody after an officer was sliced with a box cutter during a traffic stop Monday evening.

Raleigh Police Department spokesman Jim Sughrue said Monday night that officers were looking for a vehicle thought to have been used in a domestic-related kidnapping when they pulled a vehicle over in the 300 block of Lord Berkley Road. Sughrue said officers were trying to detain a man around 7:45 p.m. when he brandished a box cutter, injuring Officer J.B. Guyer, a member of the Field Operations Division.

Sughrue said Guyer and Officer S.A. Goree chased after the man, who had run into a nearby wooded area, and took him into custody.

Guyer was taken to WakeMed's Raleigh Campus, where he was treated for his injuries.

A female in the car, the alleged victim in the kidnapping, was freed during the traffic stop. The name of the man who injured Guyer was not available late Monday night, Sughrue said.
