EDP shoots Texas officer
The Associated Press
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A San Antonio police officer is hospitalized after a suspect shot him several times in an overnight confrontation at a west San Antonio apartment.
The shooting happened shortly before midnight at the Lago Vista Apartments when Ruiz answered a call about a mentally disturbed man with a gun.
Police incident reports say that as soon as Ruiz spotted Jose Miguel Gonzalez, the 30-year-old suspect fired at the officer, hitting him in the right leg and side of his chest.
Ruiz returned fire, but it's not known if Gonzalez was wounded. The suspect fled.
Police say the suspect is thought to be driving a red 1991 Chevrolet Z-71 pickup truck with the license tag number 4NV-X86. Gonzalez is described as five feet nine inches tall, weighing 130 pounds, with long black hair, brown eyes, a goatee tied with a rubber band. He has tattoos on both arms, his face, back and chest. Police warn that he's believed to be armed and dangerous.
