Overview:
The objective of the JAG Program is to provide state agencies and units of local government with funds to provide additional personnel, contractual support, travel and training, technical assistance, and information systems for criminal justice in accordance with the New Mexico Drug Strategy's approach to combating illicit drug issues and violent crime within two eligible purpose areas.
- Law Enforcement Programs
- Planning, Evaluation, and Technology Improvements Programs, limited to the evaluation component only
Funding Priority:
All applicants must align their programs in accordance with the New Mexico Drug Strategy. In awarding discretionary funding, priority will be given to:
- Multi- Jurisdictional Narcotics Task Forces
- Statewide Gang Task Force activities including but not limited to: utilization of intelligence, training, and when funding is available, gang suppression operations
- State-level enforcement strategies of the New Mexico State Police, which are formula funded
- A state-level evaluator, which is required, to oversee the policies and practices of JAG subgrantees, and monitor accountability and performance measures
- Felony Fugitive enforcement operations
Eligibility:
Eligible applicants are limited to state agencies and local units of government. A unit of local government is: a town, township, village, parish, city, county, or other general purpose political subdivision of a state; any law enforcement district or judicial enforcement district that is established under applicable state law and has authority to, in a manner independent of other state entities, establish a budget and impose taxes; or, a federally recognized Indian tribe or Alaskan Native organization that performs law enforcement functions as determined by the Secretary of the Interior. The Department of Public Safety will accept applications for private or profit businesses, limited to the evaluation component only. Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) is required to be eligible for award.

Application Deadline:
Hard copies of all documents must be received by the Grants Management Bureau no later than 2:00 p.m. (MDT) on May 31, 2012. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the completed application is received by the Department of Public Safety - Grants Management Bureau, by the deadline; any application not received by this deadline will not be considered.
