HOLYOKE, Mass. - Police officer David T. Zolendziewski died Thursday of complications from injuries suffered two months ago when his police cruiser skidded on some ice and struck a tree, Police Chief Anthony R. Scott said.
Zolendziewski, 53, was a 23-year-veteran of the Holyoke police, appointed to the force as a reserve officer by Mayor Ernest Proulx on March 18, 1985, and named a full-time officer on April 28, 1986.
Scott said Zolendziewski had been out of work since the Dec. 28 accident. Following the accident, he was rushed to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for emergency surgery, Scott said. He suffered complications relating to his injuries on Thursday and was rushed back to Baystate, where he succumbed to his injuries, Scott said.
“Officer Zolendziewski served the citizens of Holyoke proudly for over 23 years. he will be missed,” Scott said.
