CLEVELAND, Ohio — More than three dozen people suspected of trading in child pornography were charged Thursday as part of a six-month-long investigation billed as the largest of its kind in the state.

The regional effort, known as Operation SafetyNet, used new technology to infiltrate peer-to-peer file-sharing networks and flag child pornography on the Internet. Investigators tracked down users who traded illegal images, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason explained during a news conference.
