LAKELAND, Fla. — In the largest operation of its kind in Florida's history, the Polk County Sheriff's Office has arrested and charged 50 people with varying degrees of child pornography possession and distribution.

The yearlong investigation, called Operation Child Shield II, resulted in 21 arrests of Polk County residents between July 2009 and March and 29 arrests Thursday. This is nearly one year after "Operation Child Shield," in which 45 suspects were arrested.
