Most Wanted Fugitives


The D.C. Joint Fugitive Task Force compiled its "Most Wanted" list last week and provided the following details on the alleged crimes. Citizens with information on the whereabouts of these individuals.

Maandri Oba Askia

Armed Robbery

Age 26 Ht. 6-5 Wt. 180

The FBI has been searching for Askia, son of a former Washington area police officer, in connection with an armed robbery on Sept. 27, 1996. The bureau said he and two other men approached a businessman walking home from the Takoma Metro station in the 800 block of Aspen Street NW about 9:20 p.m. One man produced a knife and threatened to stab the victim, who was struck on the head. The assailants stole the man's wallet, containing $20, and a laptop computer and fled. Two men were captured, but Askia is at large. He is also wanted for failing to appear in D.C. Superior Court in June 1997 on a charge of armed carjacking.


David "Beanie" Burno

Armed Robbery

Age 33 Ht. 5-6 Wt. 220

Burno is wanted in connection with an incident on Dec. 10, 1999, involving a cab driver who pulled into an alley in the 1300 block of T Street NW. A van driven by Burno pulled up and blocked the cab, according to the FBI. Two other men jumped out with guns, forced the cabbie out of the car and started pistol-whipping him. Burno stayed behind the wheel of the van, the FBI said. The gunmen put a pistol in the cabbie's mouth, fired a shot next to his body, robbed him and fled, authorities said. The cabbie was treated for lacerations. The two gunmen were captured, but the search for Burno continues.


Jerry C. Carroll

First Degree Child Sexual Abuse

Age 35 Ht. 6-1 Wt. 150

Carroll is accused of sexually assaulting an elementary school-aged girl from 1998 to 2000, according to authorities.


Albert Mejia

First Degree Child Sexual Abuse

Age 24 Ht. 5-4 Wt. 160

Mejia is charged with sexually abusing a girl, now 10, over a four-year period in Northwest Washington.


Willie Lee McPherson

Child Sexual Assault

Age 53 Ht. 5-11 Wt. 200

McPherson was a trusted friend of a Southeast Washington family and baby-sat for its daughter, 11. She alleged that McPherson attempted intercourse with her on different occasions, authorities said. During the investigation, the family's older daughter alleged that he had sexually assaulted her when she was 11, according to authorities. In July 2000, McPherson was charged with first-degree child sexual abuse.


George Odemns III

Murder

Age 21 Ht. 5-9 Wt. 145

Odemns, 21, is suspected of being a member of a violent crew responsible for several bank and store robberies and carjackings in the District and Prince George's County last December and January, according to the FBI. He is also wanted for a murder stemming from a feud with a rival crew member in Southeast. According to authorities, a gunman began firing at Odemns's home on Raleigh Place SE on Jan. 29. No one was injured. Hours later, Odemns and his brother chased the suspected shooter, Donita Manning, 18, and shot him fatally in the 3000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE, according to authorities. The brother is awaiting trial in the case.


George Bernard Riddick

Murder

Age 33 Ht. 5-6 Wt. 230

Riddick began a tirade against his girlfriend, Danitza Barrera, in May 2000, the FBI said. "I love you, but I'll kill you before I see you with anyone else," he told her in her apartment on Elvans Road SE early one morning, according to a witness. About 8:20 a.m., gunshots were fired. Police were called. Riddick ran out of the apartment and drove off, according to the FBI. In the bedroom, Barrera, 27, was sprawled on the bed with a bullet in her neck. Unharmed by her side was her baby, Riddick's child. Forty minutes later, Barrera was pronounced dead at D.C. General Hospital.


Maurice "Stinky" Stewart

Murder

Age 31 Ht. 5-8 Wt. 160

Investigators have been looking for Stewart for nearly nine years in connection with a homicide in July 1993. At 5:40 a.m. that day, Stewart began arguing with a man near a parking lot in the 1100 block of Sursum Corda Court Drive NW. Words turned to violence, and Stewart shot the man, according to investigators. Minutes later, he returned and shot him again, authorities said.


Linda Ann Wesby

Assault with a Dangerous Weapon

Age 39 Ht. 5-2 Wt. 100

About 9:30 p.m. last Aug. 11, Wesby began arguing with a man inside a home in the 3000 block of 30th Street SE, the FBI said. The dispute escalated, and Wesby grabbed a kitchen knife and slashed the man's face and and stabbed him in the chest, authorities said. The man was hospitalized but recovered.


Hector Zavala

Assault with a Dangerous Weapon

Age 57 Ht. 5-9 Wt. 190

Zavala is sought in connection with an incident last July 29. According to court papers, he stabbed his former roommate in the lower abdomen with a four-inch knife. According to a police report, the former roommate said he had kicked Zavala out of the house three months before the stabbing for not paying rent.
