SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Two drivers were shot to death near the state capital during a two-day period during the holidays, and a third was found shot on a highway one county to the south.
In each case, police believe the victim crashed after he was shot while driving. Authorities were searching for anything that might connect the three killings.
Mathew Seivert, 19, was found inside his wrecked vehicle about 2 a.m. Wednesday in Sacramento and died Christmas Day from gunshots to the head and chest.
Just before midnight Thursday, 33-year-old Rashidi Ahmad BooneSimmonds was found dead, with bullet wounds to the neck, inside his wrecked pickup truck just south of Sacramento.
Friday morning, Adan Avalos, 37, was found dead in a wrecked sport-utility vehicle off Highway 120 in San Joaquin County. He, too, had been shot. Avalos had been reported missing since Dec. 15 from his Riverbank home. Police there said there was nothing suspicious in his background.
Sacramento police and the Sacramento and San Joaquin County sheriff's departments have compared circumstances of the shootings but could not immediately verify any connection.
