Detective's Home Shot At in Drive-By

The Associated Press

Eunice, Louisiana -- Officials are reporting that three bullets were shot at a detective's mobile home just after he and his family turned in for sleep and that a juvenile suspect was arrested Sunday.

The bullets were fired at Ronald Papillion's home at about 10:00 Saturday night, according to Eunice Police Department Chief Gary Fontenot.

Fontenot says Papillion, his wife and two children had just left the room that was struck to go to bed.

St. Landry Parish Chief Deputy Laura Balthazar says that a juvenile was in custody and that Eunice police believed the juvenile was involved in the drive-by shooting.

Fontenot said Papillion is a long-time veteran and a detective who has a caseload that includes a murder and armed robberies.

The chief said Papillion apparently has people who could want to "retaliate" against him.

Fontenot says two rounds went through the wall of the room and out the other side and the third shot was lodged in a piece of furniture, Fontenot said.
