ASHWAUBENON, Wis. — An officer had a near miss Sunday when his cruiser was nearly struck by a teen driver going the wrong way.
Part of a task force targeting intoxicated drivers, the Ashwaubenon Public Safety officer was on patrol Sunday, Fox 11 Online reported. The officer swerves just in time to avoid a collision, then turns around and pulls over the 17-year-old, who has not been identified.
"The officer put himself in danger of death and great bodily harm just to make this stop," Lt. Jody Crocker said. The same officer was hit in October during an OWI enforcement stop and suffered injuries to the head and arm, according to reports.
The teen had a blood alcohol level of 0.174 and was cited for driving under the influence, driving without a license, driving the wrong way and driving with an open container.
"This is the reason that we do OWI enforcement," Crocker said. "This is an excellent example of someone who needs to not be on the roadways."
