Chemical smoke in active shooter response
Hero on the radio: 'Slow down'
 July 20, 2012
Dear PoliceOne Member,

Our thoughts and prayers are with all the men and women of the Aurora (Colo.) Police Department as well as all the Fire, EMS, and emergency room personnel dealing with the active shooter attack. We've deviated from our planned editorial lineup to include a feature penned today by Glenn French on the topic of active shooter response in chemical smoke environments.

We all know that what happened in Aurora this morning can happen anywhere, at any time, so it's important for us all to be vigilant, train hard, and prepare for the worst.

I used to look at my pal in corrections and shake my head, knowing deep inside that he wanted to always be a cop. But after leaving my LEO job and taking up a post in the jail — something I never thought I'd do — I've grown to love the change. Like doing time yourself
