Authorities hunt for fugitive who shot N.M. sergeant

RUIDOSO DOWNS, N.M. — A Lincoln County sheriff's deputy was in critical condition Thursday night after being shot by a fugitive as he tried to make a traffic stop.

The shooting happened at about 1:30 p.m. after Sgt. Robert Shepperd spotted Kurt Sohrbeck in a pickup truck and tried to pull him over.
