Editor's Note:

This weekend, Jackson County (Miss.) Deputy Sheriff Frederick J. Gaston III was gunned down in the parking lot of a hotel. Every officer death is a tragedy felt by everyone in the police community, most of all by those who knew the individual who has been lost. Corporal Lance Shipman, who was recently interviewed on PoliceOneTV for a three-part series premiering today, told PoliceOne: "My good friend and Chief of Police during my incident was shot and killed. Fred did a lot for me during and after my incident. Fred was the best guy in the world and we all miss him.”

The best way to honor the heroes who have been taken from us is to redouble vigilance against future tragedies. At PoliceOne and Calibre Press, we strive in everything we do to help keep you safe.
