Editor's Note:

PoliceOne Senior Correspondent Morgan Wright recently interviewed noted civil rights attorney Connie Rice about her efforts to address gang crime in Los Angeles County. Rice – second cousin to U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice – is working in concert with law enforcement agencies to take an epidemiological approach to the gang problem. “You don’t hand out fly swatters for an epidemic of Malaria,” Rice says.

If you missed part one of this series, check out Wright's interview with L.A. County Sheriff Lee Baca, who says it’s time to change the paradigm and begin to address gang violence as an emergency situation.
