PoliceOne has learned that DOJ has extended the deadline for agencies to apply for Byrne Memorial (JAG) grant funds in the economic stimulus package. While there is no change in the number or type of funding opportunities, our analysis is that the extension will help to clear the logjam of applications at DOJ and give agencies precious time to submit well-constructed proposals. BERKELEY, Calif. — A Berkeley police chase of four homicide suspects that ended in a fatal crash in North Oakland appears to have adhered to department policy, which allows officers to chase violent, armed suspects, police said Sunday.

Police arrested a 22-year-old man they said was driving the Cadillac that officers had been chasing before it plowed into two cars, causing a chain-reaction collision. But two other young men who ran from the car weren't found despite an intense overnight search, authorities said ... Full story
