Dear PoliceOne Member,

Fortunately, it's a rare occurrence that a police officer turns suddenly into a deadly threat to fellow LEOs. However, with it happening twice within the span of a couple of weeks earlier this year, I've asked several PoliceOne columnists to contribute to a short series of pieces we'll run over the next 10 days. Our Blue on Blue Special Report will include articles from Dan Marcou, Chuck Joyner, Ken Hardesty and Larry Miller.

With those guys tackling some really tough topics, I want to begin this series with something that's been bothering me since Anders Breivik donned a homemade police uniform and committed the deadliest attack in Norway since World War II: making a deadly-force decision when a police impersonator's 'disguise' is seemingly flawless.

Remember the case of Vincent Richardson, a 14-year-old boy who sauntered into a Chicago police station and fooled a slew of coppers in his January 2009 stunt? Had Richardson had malevolent intent, he could have done an incredible amount of damage.
