 Dear P1 Member,

Welcome to the first PoliceOne Women’s eNews for 2013!

In this issue, soon-to-be-sergeant Nancy Fatura explains how to deal effectively and safely with people in various situations. I provide three of my favorite tips for women to improve both officer safety and career satisfaction, and Val Van Brocklin shares a quick tip about how our brains are wired differently from men (and why that can be a good thing). PoliceOne Editor in Chief Doug Wyllie writes about a conversation he had with a recently-retired veteran female officer, and we offer some training opportunities to tune up your mindset.

As I write this, three out of the 17 American police officers who have died in the line of duty this year are women. As we honor all of our fallen brothers and sisters, we must remember to tell their stories and learn from them so that they are never forgotten. Stay safe.
