Killer of Seattle officer gets 20 years
The Associated Press
SEATTLE — A man who pleaded guilty to killing a Seattle police officer in 1994 has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, and he could be out in a bit more than three years.
The sentence handed down Tuesday was what prosecutors recommended for 31-year-old Quentin Ervin.
He initially was sentenced to 33 years for second-degree felony murder in the shooting of Officer Antonio Terry at an Interstate 5 ramp in 1994. The jury failed to reach verdicts on aggravated murder or first-degree murder.
His conviction was overturned by the state Supreme Court, which then ruled that he could be retried on the more serious charges.
In a deal with prosecutors earlier this month, Ervin pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. With time served he could be out of prison in about three to six years.
