Texas sheriff stripped of his badge
A Texas TV station yesterday reported that Potter County Sheriff Mike Shumate has been found “guilty on a charge of engaging in organized criminal activity for bribery.” The report, from ABC affiliate KVII in Amarillo, indicated that Sheriff Shumate had been “stripped of his badge, as required by state law, and escorted out of the courtroom and into a police car where he was taken to jail.”
While Shumate was found not guilty on two counts of illegal campaign contributions, he faces up to 99 years behind bars on the first degree felony charge for which he will be sentenced in proceedings that will begin on Tuesday.
