S.C.: Glass-eating suspect assaults Florence police officer

FLORENCE, S.C. - Officer Tony Flowers was taken to the hospital after the altercation, in which the man knocked him to the ground by punching him in the chest.

Flowers hit his head on the concrete and lay unconscious in the street, after which the man jumped on him and struck him repeatedly in the head with his fist, Raines said.

The suspect, who is 38 years old and lives in the Evergreen community, was taken to the hospital for a minor head injury and later sent to a mental facility in Columbia, Raines said.
