Additional Info: Trooper Holmes served with the Texas Department of Public Safety - Texas Highway Patrol. He is survived by his wife and three young children.

Incident Details: Trooper Holmes was killed when his patrol car was struck by a tractor trailer. He had just crossed the median to pursue another vehicle when his patrol car was broadsided by the truck.

Cause of Death: Automobile accident

A state trooper has died after his vehicle collided with a truck during a pursuit just north of Marshall.

Todd Holmes Trooper Todd Dylan Holmes, 29, died about 10 p.m. Wednesday as he attempted to cross U.S. Highway 59, the Texas Department of Public Safety said Thursday.

Trooper Holmes had been parked on the highway’s northbound shoulder about a mile north of FM 1793 when he attempted to pursue a vehicle heading south. He turned on his emergency lights and attempted to cross the highway when his vehicle collided with an 18-wheeler heading north.

With DPS since January 2005, Trooper Holmes was stationed in Gilmer and married with three children. Funeral arrangements were pending.

Truck driver Christopher Mullins, 34, of Peshtigo, Wis. was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, said Tela Mange, a DPS spokeswoman.

The investigation was continuing.
