Ohio city abolishes police department

NEW MIAMI, Ohio — A community in southwestern Ohio is losing its police force.
Council members in New Miami voted last night to do away with the village's police department and turn law enforcement duties over to the Butler County Sheriff's Office.
New Miami Mayor Emma Jean Butler says the police were spending too much money. Police Chief Gary Vaughn disputes that, accusing the village of shoddy bookkeeping.
Vaughn says he worries about New Miami's 17 full-time and part-time police officers. They've already been pulled off their patrols.
